Jeremiah Tucker The Gunfighter - Book One Page 4
He was an older man and he had a kind smile which was unusual for a judge. Being a gunfighter, I never got that many smiles anyway. I had to get that property back so me and Alma would have a place to live if she said yes. I hired a buggy from the livery stable and me and Blue Eyes drove out to the old place. It looked a lot different than it did when I left. There were flowers planted all around the house and there were rose bushes growing out around the tree where my parents were buried. Someone had put fresh-cut flowers on their graves.
I walked up on the porch and knocked. No one answered. I turned around to leave as she was coming up behind me.
“Well, Jeremiah, it sure took you long enough to get here.” All I could see was that big sunshine smile and her red hair. I knew that my gunfighting days were over. She threw her arms around me and gave me a big kiss. All I could say was,
“Alma.”
